Rúna Magnússon, born in Amsterdam in 1992, is a PhD candidate at Wageningen University. She studies the dynamics of permafrost degradation and recovery and associated vegetation successions in the Siberian Lowland Tundra. She was a board member for APECS Netherlands from 2017 to 2020.
She learned to appreciate cold and remote regions at an early age, exploring forgotten corners of Iceland with her father and desperately hoping for a white Christmas each year back home in the Netherlands. Today she uses diverse methods, ranging from field experiments to remote sensing and dendrochronology, to study the dynamics of lowland tundra ecosystems in a changing climate.
